VFW Middle School Essay Competition

2022 Patriot's Pen Essay Competition Winner

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States sponsors the annual Patriot’s Pen Essay Competition for students in grades 6-8.  Started in 1997, the Patriot’s Pen competition has provided monetary awards for the best essays to middle school students as submitted by your local VFW post.

This year’s theme is “My Pledge to our Veterans”.  The essay is 300 to 400 words on this theme.  The student’s submission will be graded with the winner at each level being forwarded to the next.  The post and district levels vary in their monetary awards.  The Department of Texas winner will receive $5,000 and is then guaranteed at least $500 at the national level.  The winner at the national level will receive $5,000!

The student’s submission must include their essay (with no identifying information) and completely and legibly fill out the entry form.  Please read the rules and requirements prior to submission.  The student’s submission must be received by their local VFW post by October 31, 2022.  If the submission with be to Rockport VFW Post 3904, please email vfw.post.3904@gmail.com for specific delivery instructions.
